One Day Without Shoes

Many Lower Columbia College students and staff went barefoot on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, in honor of ‘One Day Without Shoes’ a national campaign designed to raise awareness of the impact a simple pair of shoes can bring to a child’s life.

The campaign was organized by student Grace Tolby, who decided to encourage support because:

"It gets people thinking about children in the world, and maybe leads someone into a career of helping children. That’s the event, it’s a simple gesture of wearing no shoes and communicating to people the situations and leading to changing a child’s life.”

“Participation in the event highlights the fact that globally children go without shoes, and having shoes can lead to healthier children, healthier children can focus and learn at school and be educated. The LCC community knows – education matters and that healthy, educated children have a better chance of improving the future of our entire community.”
